I’d like to congratulate Eric Hansel for winning our latest thematic theme challenge. Eric did a smashing job on the checkout page and he released the code back to us on time and within the guidelines. As we say here in NZ, on time and on budget.
The saga continues; The threadless theme is ready for the Plugin but the Plugin is not ready for the theme. Eric’s checkout page allows for a lovely looking split checkout process (i.e. step 1 shipping, step 2 billing, step 3 payment) but the current version of the Plugin does not.
The current version of WP e-Commerce supports a one page checkout. This is great for most e-Commerce sites but not for all – for instance the threadless.com checkout process would be too cluttered if they tried to capture all that information on just one page.
The goods news is that the next (next) major release of WP e-Commerce (3.7.6) will indeed come with a much smarter checkout system allowing for split checkout as well as being able to handle different checkout forms for different product categories.
And don’t fret about this release being far away. A trial version of this release will be available in the nightly builds repository within the next few weeks. Keep watching this space. And once again well done Eric!!
