To date our weekend theme competitions have been a total success.
They have proven to us all how easy it is to create themes using thematic and it has shown us all how easy it is to style and create WP e-Commerce friendly themes using our new Template Engine.
Threadless Competition #3
We’re not ready to release this theme because I’d like to see the checkout page improved – it needs some designer love.
The winner of the ‘third thematic theme weekend competition’ will receive $300 USD to finish off the Threadless theme originally developed by Jan Bocinec from WP.sk.
To get the theme ready for main stream use we have already made a few mods to Jan’s theme, the Threadless inspired theme now uses a php Cipher technique to generate the nice anti-aliased drop down links and we’ve also properly widgetised the theme.
Your Mission: Checkout Page
When you install the existing Threadless Theme you will notice that the checkout page is somewhat vanilla. You need to modify the CSS and the Checkout page html so that it looks a bit more flash. Check out the threadless.com checkout page for inspiration.
To edit the checkout page you’ll probably want to start editing these files.
For HTML » shopping_cart_page.php
For CSS » threadless.css
The pink numbers… are the things we’ll be looking at
- Please review your order » this is nicely worded and the colors have a nice effect
- Shipping information » this is laid out nicely, can you match this?
- This little box of information makes buyers feel comfortable » can you something in, a widget perhaps?
- A nice little order summary containing totals » be creative!!
- This would probably be a make purchase button since the WP e-Commerce checkout process in only on one page

Prizes
The grand prize is $300.00 (plus any additional community contributions) and possibly a shout out at the New York WordCamp during my presentation. Plus all the fame on our website.
There will be three runner up winners. Each of which who will receive a threadless.com t-shirt voucher.
Why do this?
I’ll admit the prize money isn’t huge, especially if you’re a New York high roller, but for a lot of us $300.00 will come in handy and to be honest this shouldn’t take you more then a weekend. If somebody adds to the prize kitty then you will obviously win more cash.
Because you want to be a WordPress RockStar. The theme will become a GPL theme and you’ll be given all the credit we can give you. We’ll blog about you, we’ll tweet about you and hopefully announce your skills at the next upcoming WordCamp where I’ll be speaking.
Theme Submission
You need to test your work, zip it up and then email it to dan [at] instinct.co.nz, I will then forward it to the right people here at Instinct HQ for testing. Also you must use the latest version of the WP e-Commerce Plugin available from our website (currently RC3 in our blog).
The deadline is 31st October midnight UST.

So how many people are interested in this comp? I’ve only recieved three emails ;)
I agree the checkout page does need some love. I’m currently busy developing my own theme and may look to model the checkout page similar to the Threadless example posted here. If successful I shall let you know.
Will the new updated files be available for download?

But I can’t find the WPECthreadless in the “Download Threadless Theme 0.5″.
Will this theme be released any time soon? I’d be willing to add to the prize pool if it’s help. I’m preparing to post a job like this on Freelancer anyway..maybe this could be a better option?
