  • fedex shipping
  • canada post
  • more usps and ups features
  • split checkout, shortcodes for “everything”
  • twitter updates sent to you via @username

User Interface

  • inline adding and removing of product categories
  • full screen vs split screen modes
  • marketing page overhaul
  • money and payments page overhaul

Enterprise Features

  • Virtual Currency System
  • Variations overhaul (so that essentially varations become full products in their own right)

General Features

  • wholesale price vs normal price
  • more shortcodes and template tags

Miscellaneous

  • Template engine for transaction results page, purchase receipt and your account page
  • Template engine for category widget
  • Overhaul buy now code to work with more payment gateways

As Rachael already mentioned (http://www.instinct.co.nz/3-7-1-pre-launch-test/#comment-4488), the VAT laws for most of the EU have been harmonised. This means that for orders within the EU the local VAT has to be included, but not for exports to countries outside of the EU. It would be nice if a function similar to the US could be added. (There is another exemption to the rule: If a EU customer can provide a VAT-ID, no VAT has to be charged!)

In addition, it would be convenient to display not only the added VAT but alternatively the VAT which is already included in the price (net vs. gros). (Meaning, the final price is the same for all customers, but the VAT is different.) Finally, in some countries (e.g., Germany) it is the case that the p&p / postage must also include VAT (but, again, not for exports to countries outside of the EU).

I am not sure if all this is workable, but it would be nice if some of this could be included.

    Thanks for all the effort!

Showing the VAT included in the price where the final price is the same but VAT portion is different tends to be the way that most European E-commerce sites seem to be set up, so support for this would be great!

What I’d like to see is a working integration with WPML ( http://wpml.org/ ). This method of providing multilingual websites should be adaptable to wp e-commerce. I’d be happy to help out on translating.

Also I’d like to be able to make exceptions and offer discounts with the shipping rates. I’d like to be able to offer customers from my own country free shipping on orders over €50,- but at the same time I need to charge shipping costs for all the other customers on my continent.. This seems impossible right now but will make it a lot easier for shop owners to market their products..

That’s it for now, keep up the good work!

  3. Posted August 5, 2009 at 8:52 pm | Permalink

Also, I’m still experiencing some blank pages after submitting changes on the back end. Could be a local thing or something with the plugin..

Be great to have functionality to add cost price to each item in shop ( not displayed on front end obviously but just stored so that we can run reports on sales and costs and easily extract profits.

Hello Dan, and thanks for all this amazing work.
    Agree with Taeke,
I think the best priority for 3.7.2 is to be multilingual.

    Great work on 3.7.1 !!!
Things I’d like to see in the next version (which seem fairly minor but certainly help overall usability) include:

    1. Ability to easily add extra purchase statuses (for Accepted Payment, Refunds etc) – it would need to be possible to exclude the order when calculation revenue totals for some statuses.

    2. Ability to re-order variations – so it’s possible if you have 2 variation sets to choose wether the Size or Colour menu comes first, then also order the variations within, ie the order of colours in the Colours menu.

    3. A javascript datapicker for Coupon codes – just to make it easier.

    4. Tax handling for Europe and inclusive tax (has already been mentioned above).

If I can help out with any of the above, please let me know…

…and sale prices for each product variation.

  7. jashnu
    Posted August 6, 2009 at 2:36 am | Permalink

Thanks for the update once again! I noticed a flaw in coupons. It uses the actual price instead of special price. E.g. with a coupon code of 10% discount on item with an original price of 40, you get a 4 for discount even if the special price is 20. Of course, the discount should be 2 instead of 4.

Also, the default templates are missing also bought.

I’m interested. Would like changing colors on Threadless-like theme, but don’t see it available anywhere, as it’s what I need for our products. Like the voting, but seems there are a lot of broken links or integration problems with the reviews/rating powered engine.

Read the forums, don’t like what I see, and who releases a new candidate every 2-3 days? Test, test, then test some more before even considering putting out something so mission critical. It will be a downfall of a great product. How can all those major issues be ignored, and new releases keep coming out, you can’t possibly have tested all scenarios in a small shop such as this.

Want to buy it, nervous, but has all features and looks I want. Has to function. Too many CC integration, shipping calc, totals calc, MAJOR issues all over the boards. COuld be idiot users not figuring out the free version or something, but too many to be coincidence. Let us know what’s going on. And when Threadless-like theme will be stable. Thanks

    • Posted August 6, 2009 at 11:00 am | Permalink

Hey Buddy. To answer your questions…

      1) If you want the threadless theme as it is then email me and ask. You’ll have to finish the CSS yourself though. Unless you want us to drop core Plugin development to help you out? Yeah right. Nope you’ll need to finish the CSS or find somebody to finish it for you ;)

      2) People who work full time on candidates release candidates full time. The lovely thing about WP e-Commerce (and WordPress) is that upgrading is easy and becoming automatic – so who cares. I think this is becoming a moot point these days. I hear people say the same thing about WordPress.

      3) Nobody should use the forums to judge the Plugin. If they do they should check the wordpress.org forums and switch to drupal.

      4) Ummm well actually there ain’t such a thing as too many CC integration / shipping tools. They are used by many thousands of happy people running online shops selling their stuff. They are for people willing to take the time to learn which options suit their business – they they set them up and sell sell sell

This is a feature prioritization thread. If you want to continue this email me… otherwise I’ll have to move it to a more suitable location.

      Thanks for being understanding!! ;)

I am still experience difficulty on getting the post category correct.
I try to change the category for a post and after I saved it coming back to previous one.
    anyone know what the problem?

    • Posted August 6, 2009 at 11:01 am | Permalink

Are you talking about adding a product category to a post?

      • Posted August 7, 2009 at 3:18 am | Permalink

        No,
what I mean is changing the existing product category.
I want ti change existing product to new category, but after I save the old category remains checked.

        • Posted August 14, 2009 at 11:40 am | Permalink

Products can be in multiple categories, you have to untick the previous category youself.

Or are those changes not saving?

I would love the ability to collapse and expand product categories in the categories widget instead of having all the categories in a long list.

    • Posted August 6, 2009 at 11:01 am | Permalink

We could actually make this a feature in the widget itself. Liking it.

    • Posted August 6, 2009 at 9:24 pm | Permalink

If selected categories in the widget had a “selected” class applied, it would be easy to hide subcategories via css and only show them if the parent category has a selected state – a bit like how the WordPress Pages and Categories widgets work.

Just looking at setting a new site up using WP and WP-ecommerce. I’ve not used it before but it looks great.

How easy would it be to enable customers to be automatically added to a mailing list at GetResponse.com (or Aweber). To have something in admin where you can specify the list name over at GR/Aweber would be excellent.

Also… I sell products which require customers to upload a photo/photos to us. Would it be possible maybe to build functionality in that would enable this and if a customer orders say 3 items and wants one colour, one b & w and the 3rd in sepia, I’d know which was which – so it is all tracked through the order process.

If this is a fairly big ask – do you think this is something that a coder from RAC etc could create to work with WP-ecommerce?

I have been using Joomla/Virtuemart but am really keen to switch to WP, and am just working out what can and can’t be done with your great looking plug-in :O)

    Cheers
    Phil

    • Posted August 6, 2009 at 3:30 pm | Permalink

I’m not sure about GetResponse.com (or Aweber). But we already intergrate with campaign monitor so it must be possible.

People can already upload 1 image to you as an administrator. Or one file. So the cheap option would be to ask your customers to upload a zip file with multiple images. To enhance that more would require us quoting you. Or we can help point a coder from RAC in the right direction. It could be jazzed up a little for sure :)

    Hello,

I’ve been using 3.6 and 3.7 and they both work very well. Minimal bugs, and great work.

Reports: Maybe I missed where this is, or maybe its a new feature. I would like to be able to download a closed sales report including total order, total shipping and total tax, in three separate columns. I have purchased the gold cart, but this type of report does not seem to be in the Goldcart upgrade either.

Thank you all very much for a great ecommerce plugin.

What a great plugin this is, definitely in the “plugin super league”!

My only feature request for the next version is that you arrange some kind of official contacts for the different language versions, and in someway support the persons that would like to take that kind of responibility.

There has been many persons trying to get in contact with you via the forum to provide translations in various languages.

Maybe the next version can include contact information for the people that do translations (or maybe you can list it on the Instict web page) and also display for which languages you would like people to sign up for taking care of translations (and updates of these)

For example, I am one of the 4-5 persons that has asked if we can assist, via the forum and email – this only for the Swedish language file. But as far as I can see, there is still a lot of Swedish missing in the latest release. There are a few that has released language files for Swedish on their own servers, but it would be a lot nicer if this was included in every new release.

Again, I love this plugin, but for it to increase sales in the local market, it needs to be localized. We are many that want to put a lot of time in to this. Please hear us and let us help you out!

  14. Posted August 7, 2009 at 2:59 am | Permalink

I like the idea of a template engine for the packing slip and other receipts or admin sections. I appreciate the inclusion of this in your next release.

I think it would be great to be able to specify the meta title, description, and keywords for each product. This would take SEO a big step further.

I’m not sure if there is an option right now but having a sales page and a checkbox somewhere in the product editor to select an item for the sales page would be nice.

The same goes for the home page – having an option to display product categories on the home page or specific sale products – or a combo of both.

A while back I tried to use multiple category shortcodes on one page and only the first worked – I’m not sure if this has been fixed but it would be nice if not.

It would also be nice to have the cart change remove the add to cart button and give an out of stock message when the quantity on hand is 0. Along the same lines, it would be nice to have the option to hide products that are out of stock.

I like the idea of a product import tool. I see this most valuable to be able to update product quantities on a site-wide basis. It would be very helpful if I could export a CSV or XLS and then edit the quantities or other properties and then upload the file and update the data.

I noticed that when I put tables in my main product description, they are stripped (entered by html editor). I’m not sure if there is a reason for this or if it is a bug.

I love the upgraded tracking ID and template to email to the customer but I’d like a confirmation after I hit the link to send the tracking ID. You might not know if it sent properly and hit the link 4 times.

Finally, having the ability to suppress any automatic emails would be nice. I don’t know that I would need it but there are times when I might not want the cart to automatically send an email.

I’m sure I’ll think of other ideas and I’ll pass them along. I appreciate your team’s consideration of everyone’s input. It really makes the product superior to many alternate options.

It would also be nice to reorganize the categories….

I like all improvements in 3.7.1, especially “select all/none” for Target Markets.
Could this be implemented to variation too?
It would be very useful for people who has a lot of variation, eg. for clothing company that have a lot of color for their products.

Thank you and hope this plugin will be the most powerful plugin in the world :)

Is there anyway to itemize the discount separately on the checkout page?
After the coupon is applied, the total final price is correctly changed but it would be nice to have the amount actually discounted shown as a subtotal.

This would help make it clear how much was discounted and confirm whether it was applied or not.

Ideally, it would be before the tax subtotal or applied right with each product in a column.

It also gave a null argument supplied to class() function in the main wp-shoppingcart.php file, but the plugin did install, and at first glance seems to working.
I’m not 100% on this, but shouldn’t you have function brackets when using the new operator? around line 289.

Hi as of beta 2 due out this week, I have implemented a CSV import script that can handle larger descriptions etc. Categories will be a tough one to implement the balance here is less SQL queries and better usability (we are trying to come up with a solution) but in 3.7.5beta 2 you can assign a category for all the products in a single CSV file,,, not the best solution but this will be further worked on.

Thanks for the update…you all do good work! However, we’re having a problem with integrating Wp e-Commerce with PayPal Payment Pro…

We spoke with PayPal yesterday. Our site IS communicating with PayPal, but for some reason the WP application, when someone enters their address, defaults to California. In other words…no matter what a customer types in for their shipping address, it defaults to California. The PayPal guy said it was probably an easy fix somewhere in the WP e-Commerce settings. PayPal then sent a follow up email saying…

“Thank you for contacting Merchant Technical Services.

From our logs, the error that is being return are:

” “There’s an error with this transaction. Please enter an address1 in the shipping address.”
“There’s an error with this transaction. Please enter a city in the shipping address.”
“There’s an error with this transaction. Please enter a country in the shipping address.”

… this is because, your website is by default passing to PayPal a value for ’shiptostate’ of CA even when the buyer does not enter a shipping address. And if the buyer enters a shipping address, it does not pass the buyer’s full shipping address to PayPal, it only passes a ’shiptostate’ of CA.

Contact your cart vendor for assistance on how to turn off this option in your cart’s configuration.

Let me know if you need further assistance.”

Any thoughts would be HUGELY appreciated!

I’m looking at this e-commerce app for the first time and I’m very intrigued. What is the Virtual Currency option? Is it a points system that would make a user to add credit to their account through a payment gateway, allowing them to use that credit for purchases? That would be useful for sites with low-cost, downloadable files. Charging an account with $10 increments (for example) and debiting purchases from that account would be a good thing.

All I would really like to see is a force shipping method option. I am having to hunt down to many people because the checkout page did not force them to select a shipping method before payment. Yes this option is available for some shipping methods but not all (UPS). Is it really that hard to add a line at the check out that says if shipping amount = 0 then don’t proceed and throws an error message to the user? Refine it later, but please get something basic in place for the next update.

    http://trystbykerry.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_19&products_id=324

An ability to hover over the small thumbnails, and the large picture appears on the page, replacing the original large image.
It is really something people seem to be wanting these days. Could this be a possible feature in the future?

Please please add this feature, I actually lost one customer because they wanted that feature so she went with Mal’s Ecommerce instead.

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get this “hover” thing to work on wp e-commerce too but I’m no programmer :(

I was thinking of making this as a personal module myself ;)

maybe even with ZOOM feature later,,,

I was thinking more of a “hover over” effect rather than having to click it but this is quite similar :) It would be great to have this as maybe a plugin or a built in feature

Ditto the request for recurring billing in Members Only – with automated email notification.

I would also like to be able to set a global discount for all current members.

    Thanks!

Guys, I am loving the plugin, it’s absolutely brilliant. It has everything I need except ONE TINY THING.

Is there any chance we’ll see an Australia Post shipping calculator?

I wish this would be multilingual also. I know at least three blogs (and future webshops) that would benefit from it.

Please. STOP adding features and start adding complete documentation.

Seriously, couple of other people have already grovelled for it too – would be fantastic if there was an Australia Post calculator for WP e-commerce (and it should totally be on this poll).

There’s already an excellent API available for it:

    Pretty please?

I am excited to see that FedEx is a priority for the next version. Being limited to UPS and USPS is taking an additional 5% to 22% of our profit margin due to the price difference in shipping heavier items.

Definitely multilingual is the most valuable advance for me. It would be great!!

Really very hopeful for Canada Post integration – this is the only feature I need to fully use this plugin.

I have purchased the gold cart and the members only module. I think it is ABSOLUTLY CRUCIAL that the ‘you must login to access this content’ widget on members only pages, has error reporting! If a user gets an incorrect pwd, he is bumped to wp-login, (THIS is VERY bad on a wordpress Mu install)…. even free plugins like ’sidebar-login’ have error reporting included. if you get the wrong pwd, you stay on the page, but get a msg above the login box saying invalid pwd try again. simple yet VERY necessary. May have to consider another script to run this as this is a deal breaker for a wpmu install…

I am hoping for the Canada Post module to be introduced soon, too! Please? Pretty please?!!
