I’ve been struggling with this for a week, and the new release still doesn’t fix the Paypal issue with WP 3.8.1. The bug is repeatedly discussed in the forum — you get a blank page or a 404 error when using Paypal Pro. Even Paypal Standard won’t process correctly. It seems like being able to process payments through Paypal would be imperative for a shopping cart.
You must be doing something wrong. Paypal works on our site and all our development sites. We have tested this so without seeing your site I’m pointing the finger at you or your host.
(please say your not using godaddy)
If you can send FTP and WP admin access to dev@instinct.co.nz we can take a ‘quick’ look tomorrow.
Dan,
Thanks for your response. I’ll contact you tomorrow to see about a fix for the problem. It looks like a number of other people are having the same exact problem that I have been struggling with for a week, though.
I’m definitely not using GoDaddy — they are the worst in terms of permissions.
I’ll gladly even pay you guys for helping get this figured out. It looks like a great product — I just can’t get it to work properly. That, combined with all of the other very similar complaints from other users made me think it was a problem with your software. I’m seriously hoping that it isn’t and that you can help me figure it out tomorrow.
Take care,
Charles
Dan-
You were wrong — it was a crappy bug in your software. Just by chance, I ran across another post by Shayne telling someone to ship to at least one country. Since I only do business in one city, I didn’t need a country code. When I activated it, I could at least get Paypal Standard to work. (Paypal Pro still does not work — probably some other dumb bug).
Your really buggy software is the problem (i.e. finger pointed back at you). I seriously would pay for a cart that works — it sucks that I spent two weeks trying to figure out how to solve your cart’s random bugs. Lame.
-Charles
Well…. this isn’t a final release of the software so you don’t have much room to complain. If you don’t like it go buy someone else’s software. I appreciate the hard work the team has put in on a free cart that allows everyone to make money. So you spent two weeks playing around with a beta – great – give them the fix and save some other users the hassle and keep on using the software and contributing to the conversation
Eric-
You’re missing the point. Rather than look for their own bug, Dan’s first comment was that I must have done something wrong. This, in light of tons of other posts commenting on the same exact problem. Other potential users should know how buggy this thing is before spending so much time trying to figure it out.
And your comment that this isn’t the final release? Wouldn’t you think that being able to process a payment would be pretty high on the list of features they should get to work?
Regardless if this is free or not, it’s lame to release something that clearly has so many problems.
My humble suggestion would be to increase quality control, stop blaming others for your bad product, get the cart to actually work, and then sell it for a modest fee. If someone gives away a turd for free, it still doesn’t change the fact that they’re giving you a turd.
Me? I’m going to wipe and move on.
Charles
Hello,
How can i upgrade from rc2 to rc2? I heve just to overwrite files in my ftp? I can’t upgrade it from my wordpress administration pannel
I posted these a few test rls back and its still not fixed from what i can see on your development site… when you add a bunch of the same items to the cart, and when the cart is displayed in say the sidebar, it only counts all of those items as one.. then if you add 1 of another item then u have 2, even tho you might have 500 of the same items grouped together… the total should be 501 items… not 2 items in your cart…
Please send dev@instinct.co.nz FTP and wp admin access to the site. The problem is that we don’t get this issues so we can’t fix it :-/
the problem is on your demo site http://apps.instinct.co.nz/wp-2.8.1/?page_id=3
add 3 “Megatron (Red)” to your cart and 1 “Optimus Prime” and look at the shopping cart on the left.. quantity for each product is right but above where it says “Number of items: 2″ …. but the number of items in your cart is actually 4… its not really a bug, but its not displayed correctly….
There are a few requests and bug reports i have for the final version:
I’m using WP 2.8 and reinstalled RC2 from using RC1
1) UPS XML integration – being able to put in key, user id & password to provide account specific rates.
Note: The current UPS isn’t working on mine…i saw after RC1 you posted a fix..but just wondering if you had a change to update this in the RC2 Code.
2) Canada Post Integration – I know there isn’t alot of us but it would be awesome!
Just in case – here is the integration link: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/business/solutions/sellonline.jsf
3)Variation Control on Product Admin Page: Need 2 more boxes – a) to add a SKU for each resulting variant product b)to add stock qty. for each resulting variant product i would assume most people would like to import orders into an accounting program at some point – this would be needed before considering. I do see XERO is on the list but being this is a free cart, it shouldn’t be integrated into something that costs people monthly. Quickbooks would be ideal… talk to webgility.com .they’re accounting and shipping sync mods are cheaper than T-HUB.
4)Checkout Page: A checkmark or radio button that asks if the shipping address is different. If no is selected, then the shipping details get automatically filled in from the Billing Info. If yes is selected, then the shipping details form would appear using AJAX…however you want to do this…i just need a checkmark:)
5)Category Front End View: I would ideally like to have a grid view of categories (with thumnail and category name). I personally like the list view for products but think there should be a standard a grid view with thumbnails and category names for categories..
Bug: When i click on the breadcrumb to traverse a category, it tells me there are no products in that category even if THERE ARE.
6)Taxes: Bug: I have selected Canada, in the General Settings, and changed the tax percentages to be charged for all provinces. When i do a test order – no tax is charged.
Thank you for your hard work on all of this!!!!
I second the idea 4 above for adding a radio button on the checkout page to populate the shipping address with the billing address.
We’re going to do this in 3.7.1 for sure :)
Your last post wasn’t lost on me… Or any of us actually. The bugs you posted should be sorted in 3.7 however a few of these are feature requests that won’t make it into the full 3.7 release.
That said some might make it into the 3.7.1 release and you could always commission certain features I’d you need things urgently.
Also thanks for mentioning that t-hub alternative. Do they also offer easy access to the quickbooks payment gateway?
I can’t activate 3.7 RC2. I get a fatal error. But this is a wonky server so I am not surprised. 3.75 works well,though.
oh..a couple more things..any eta on the iphone module? second..do you guys take on custom dev projects? If so..where can i email RFQ specs? Thanks
Email dan@instinct.co.nz and we’ll take a look.
Thanks for this new release!
I have some minor problems with this plugin, when I’m on my dashboard some functionalities are disabled, like extending menu categories, moving blocs and even accessing screen option and help. It looks like javascript conflicts and it only happens now that I have both latest versions of WordPress and WP e-commerce plugin.
I checked if another plugin was in cause but I still have this problem when WP e-commerce is the only activated plugin.
@DAN
I was browsing SVN repo of your project when I came across a SVN node named “Branches/3.8pre/”.
I just want to know which one – 3.8pre or 3.7RC2 is more WPMU friendly.
I have been having lots of problem while deploying this great plugin to WPMU.
I also used your getshopped.com and I noticed you are using “wp-shopping-cart” version there. Is it same as “dev/wp-shopping-cart” in your SVN. Is it more compatible?
My goal is to use version which works best on WPMU. I am ready to sacrifice some features at the cost of stability.
Sorry for long comment. Thanks for your time.
-Rahul
At the moment, 3.8pre is just a snapshot of 3.7 (can’t remember the rev # off the top of my head). Nothing has been checked in against this branch nor will be until 3.7 (and probably 3.7.1) ship.
One Minor PayPal payment Bug though — when user Clicks Cancel and comes back to the Store/Site they are shown a BLANK Transaction Results Page
this is only bug ive found in paypal and thats using PayPal Standard Payments it also leaves the item in their cart (cart widget)
Would also be nice if there was some sort of e-mail notice sent to Admins when a user does click cancel on the paypal page
Hm something seems realy wrong with the check out – i get an browsererror that means that there is a redirect tries to run a endless loop.
even on your demo site … ;)
Yes, I have the same check out problems. IE8 keep on running a endless loop.
even on your demo site http://apps.instinct.co.nz/wp-2.8.1/?page_id=4
OK Now! using WP2.8.1, eCommerce 3.7RC2
IE8 check out OK
Remarks:
demo site http://apps.instinct.co.nz/wp-2.8.1/?page_id=4 (maybe still using eCommerce 3.7RC1, so having error)
The redirect problem was a bug in RC1, it was one of the first things we fixed after RC1 was released.
I am helping my mother in law build her site and we are getting this issue as mentioned above where the website goes into an infinate loop after you click checkout… This occurs with paypal and manual checks outs.
This was working for us 2 weeks ago and now it isnt. So I have upgrade to the latest editions but still no luck. I am wondering if it is from a data issue somewhere.
I have just done a completely new install of WP and database, and the problem still exists… I am totally lost now.
yes this i a bit wierd, especily the point that after a fresh install the plug in knows my settings, even if i delete the pluginfolder and database!
isn it possible that the plugin saves data to another DB somewehre else ?
It also saves settings to the wp-options table.
Also, it will automatically generate some of its settings if they were not present on installation.
hi, looking very good. just have 1 request for 3.7 final. please please please could you fix the bug that affects the sale price not being displayed when using variations….
Instructions for the full fix have already been documented here…
http://www.instinct.co.nz/forums/topic.php?id=4133#post-17228
thanks again for your great work!
Hi. I really like the overhauled interface of 3.7. I have upgraded one site from 3.6.12 to 3.7RC2 and I’ve noticed a problem. We were allowing users to upload images when they bought a product, for customization purposes. Before, the file upload was broken in IE, and only functioned in Firefox. In RC2, while the checkbox in the admin area for this option is still there, no file upload box ever appears for a user checking out.
Do you have any ideas on either of these problems? The 3.6.12 file upload IE incompatibility, or the RC2 missing the customer file upload box completely?
Thanks.
The upload form now appears on the single products page, it can also be added to the multiple products page if you edit the template.
Go to the wp-e-commerce/themes/default/ directory, open up the single_product.php file
Get the section between line 95 and 112 and put it in to the products_page.php file, somewhere in the vicinity of line 156 should work.
Minor variations bug: When editing a product and multiple types of variation (eg colour and size) are available…
I set up a product with the limited stock checkbox checked and one type of variation (eg colour) setup with stock and price values for each variation, and save this product.
If I then go back to edit this product and decide to add another variation (eg size), when I check the ’size’ checkbox the additional rows of variation appear below, but the stock column disappears.
I have to uncheck and re-check the limited stock checkbox to get it to show.
Hey guys, I can’t access the tax settings page for the US. I tried a test order and it applied tax to a state that shouldn’t have tax. I’m not sure if these are related. The page is wp-admin/admin.php?isocode=US. Any ideas on these?
The URL to this page should be:
admin.php?page=wpsc-settings&tab=general&isocode=US
It is this for me, I am going to need more information in order to help you.
Hey, when I go to my admin panel then go to the settings section, the link shows the short version that I listed above. If I go to another country to change the settings and then revert back to the US, the link will work and the link is /wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpsc-settings&tab=general&isocode=US. Now… If I change tabs in the settings section or if I leave this page and come back to it, the link is domain/wp-admin/admin.php?isocode=US. If you need more information, I could email you a temporary user and pass to look at it.
You might be able to identify the problem with the shipping prices (that I mentioned later in the comments on this post) at the same time if you have access.
This problem has been fixed in the version that will become 3.7 tomorrow.
I just uploaded a new product and the thumbnail isn’t working. The link to the image that it created is /wp-content/uploads/wpsc/product_images/thumbnails/23.
After changing to Grid View for the category, it started working.
I’d like to figure out how to add multiple items to the cart with one click — do you have a suggested code I can insert into a blog post for that.
What I mean is, I might want to promote items and attach other items without having the user to click multiple times.
Is this possible?? This would solve a lot of problems I’m running into right now.
Thanks!
~Justin
I’d like to know how I can change the upload file size limit of 8 Mb to a larger size. Is this possible?
Edit your php.ini file or talk to your hosting provider.
Another minor item – I can’t see a way to reorganize the order of the categories. I’m using the sidebar widget to show categories and I can’t put them in the order I want – alphabetical order.
Hmm…
RC2: Still cannot edit products.
The checkout still often displays the wrong items, often duplicating the last item added. These show up as the first and last items.
Sometimes the sidebar checkout and the checkout page do not correlate.
Hey guys, I found a pretty major bug with the flat rate shipping system. If I have an item that has ignored shipping (free shipping selected in the item editor) and only that item is added to the cart, it gives free shipping. If I add another item that doesn’t have free shipping, the cart charges the table rate for the item that is charged shipping and the item that receives free shipping.
To illustrate, I have a gun that ships free and sells for $407. If I just add the gun to the cart, it shows no shipping. If I empty the cart and add only a magazine ($49) for that gun, the shipping is $8.95 because that is the table rate for the price of that magazine. If I add the pistol to the cart with the magazine, it ups the shipping cost to $18 which is the total shipping for the two combined – even though it shouldn’t charge extra shipping. Basically, when there are items with shipping and free shipping and table rate is set, it charges shipping on all the items.
.Thanks, I have fixed this for both table and weight rate.
Man, you rock! Thanks for the fast response!
yet another question…. Can we export a product CSV, edit it for quantity or pricing, and reupload it to overwrite the existing values? I’m not seeing a way to export a list and I’m not sure if I can overwrite existing items.
I have looked at or fixed these bugs:
1.) bug when traversing categories using breadcrumbs in grid view [works for me]
2.) Canadian tax not being charged[fixed]
3.) Stock column for variations is doing odd things when adding variation sets [fixed]
4.) Table rate should ignore price for items with free shipping [fixed]
5.) Product permalinks need to allow weirder characters [fixed]
6.) Replace “/” characters in product and category URL names with a “-” [fixed]
Here the link to the latest development version is:
http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wp-e-commerce.zip
Thanks for the update Tom! We appreciate the quick fixes. I had an issue when I used a & in a product name and it put the & in the URL. Is this addressed in #5? I’m guessing the browser is looking at it as a variable or something… I changed the product name to fix the issue. Perhaps that could be changed to a dash in the URL.
Hey Tom, I’m having a larger problem with punctuation in the product names…. I’ve got forward slashes and periods in my product names because I need them for caliber and what not…. Is this something you’ll be fixing? I’ve got about 60 product in the system and all the links go to 404 errors. If you want to email me, I’ll send you a link to my store so you can see it. It isn’t the link in my signature.
Otherwise, can you tell me an easy way to fix all these URL’s? I need to maintain the periods in the product titles.
Thanks again,
John
Hey guys, I noticed a minor difference between current version and older versions with the image uploader. Right now you can’t edit the thumbnail settings until after the product is added. Before after you upload the first image, you can edit its thumbnail settings. Sorry if this has been submitted already.
That guy Charles really gives me heartburn. You guys at Instinct have made an incredible product for FREE. Keep up the amazing work, I am so glad there are people like you out there!
There is a reason things are called BETA Charles! If you want a quick install to get running, put 3.6.12 into place and wait for all the kinks to be worked out in 3.7. Geez.
Hi.
Transaction result page error still exist. The shipping for each item is not shown and the total shipping is incorrent. Like this.
- 1 Testing Product One $35.00
- Shipping: $0.00
- 1 Testing Product Two $20.00
- Shipping: $0.00
Total Shipping: $2.00
Total: $59.00
Besides that, payment through paypal also incorrect. The amount sent to paypal checkout wasn’t correct. The paypal amount was $57.00 and total shipping is $2.00. It didn’t include shipping of each item.
thanks.
cheers
I installed the latest development version, im on WP 2.8.1 and check out now throws a shipping error:
Warning: Missing argument 1 for wpsc_cart::calculate_total_weight(), called in /usr/home/s/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-e-commerce/wpsc-includes/cart.class.php on line 75 and defined in /usr/home/s/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/wp-e-commerce/wpsc-includes/cart.class.php on line 980
Thanks, I have fixed this in the development version.
Just thought I’d throw out something for those having a problem with images not showing up as thumbnails. I had this problem and deleted the images from the product and then switched to the Browser uploader and reuploaded my first image. After saving, the thumbnail worked and I uploaded my other images using the flash uploader…..
I just upgraded to 3.7, and now I get this error. So far i could handle the hold CTRL key to perform setting changes on the backend/Dashboard, but now this just kills the whole cart.
except for the shopping cart page itself. otherwise, all other pages show this error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function product_display_default() in /hermes/web06/b824/pow.snxconsult/htdocsy2pr/wp-content/plugins/wp-e-commerce/homepage_products_functions.php on line 96
when I lookup the error on line 96 I see this.
$output .= product_display_default($product_list, $group_type, $group_sql, $search_sql);
Any quick suggestions?
I have the same problem.. Somebody please help
Another item to add to my already long RC1 list.
Though it seems that people are working diligently to fix the USPS and UPS shipping modules, there is still 1 aspect of using them that makes it tough to justify using them: Handling charges (you Kiwis call them Packaging charges). When I ping UPS with a weight, they come back with a price dependent on the weight. But what about any handling costs that I might want/need to charge to on top of actual shipping charges?
For instance, there are some things that like box charges and taxes that are not accounted for when using these UPS/USPS rates. As a business owner, I am responsible for paying a 6% tax at the end of the year on every item that I ship. If I simply use the rates given by UPS and USPS, I would actually be losing money on every shipment made.
It would be nice if a user could add a small handling fee to every order in order to cover more than just the actual shipping charges. This actually works in Flat Rate shipping. Each item has a shipping cost which is added to the entire order shipping cost, and the total is given to the customer.
What I’m looking for is the exact same behavior when using UPS/USPS shipping; a specific amount added to the quoted shipping cost from UPS/USPS.
Let’s say I specify that my handling charges will be $2.00 per order to cover boxes, packing peanuts, and taxes to the state. The USPS price that is sent back is $4.95, I would like the shipping total to be $6.95, and if the UPS total is $8.00, I would like the shipping total to be $10.00.
Is this behavior possible?
Since it is implemented with Flat Rate shipping, I wouldn’t imagine that it would be too hard to do the same thing with UPS/USPS.
Hey guys….isn’t software development a hoot?
Still having the same old problem with the item count in the shopping cart as a symptom of a larger problem. But here’s a small issue for me…
Is it possible to eliminate the “48 state” option in the flat rate shipping? I would prefer that my flat rate be displayed as simply that, a flat rate for all buyers, as I am only shipping to the US and would include all 50 states at the same rate. Displaying both options is misleading, imho. How can I accomplish this?
Thanks for all your hard work.
I know this is off-topic for this post, but don’t know where else to post it.
On the Campaign Monitor website they said that you have a plugin called Campaign Monitor that doesn’t currently work with their product, but that you are working on it. I have the WP-Ecommerce plugin and the Gold package and would love a plugin that integrated WP, your product and the campaignmonitor.com product.
Are you working on a plugin for this? If so, any ETA on a release?
Thanks!
I purchased most of you paid for plugins / addons and am wondering have you updated any of them, or will you be updating any of them in recent changes to v3.7?
I’m only wondering as if I upgrade to this version from the previous pre 3.7 will I have any issues. I’d like to make sure as I don’t want to be in a situation where I’m unable to use the gold cart, grid view, or nexgen buy now addons….
thx
I asked this before however I cannot find the link to it. Where can I get the updated gold cart files for RC2?
Wow i just tried to post this really long list of problems in here, pressed post and poof, all gone and nothing posted… ugg tired will try again tomorrow

Tom, thanks for fixing that Missing argument 1 for wpsc_cart::calculate_total_weight
the error is now cleared, thank you.
Is anyone else having an issue with the check out form displaying external UPS shipping data? The only way I can get external UPS shipping data to work is if I select :
External Shipping Calculators – UPS >>
>>Residential Address
>> UPS Letter
any other combo and no external shipping rates show up on checkout.
What I need is “Your Packaging” option. But when i pick that option, no shipping data.
Is it just me?
Im running WP 2.8.1 , and the development version
thanks!
how do i edit the widgets category on sidebar? I want the number and the text to be on one line. i look at the widget but i dont understand anything.
Hi – I just upgraded to the 3.7 version of the e-commerce plugin and am having issues with the shipping part. I am using table rate, which moved smoothly on the upgrade, but I can’t seem to get it to edit.
First, it is a bugger to even be able to select the “edit” option as it appears/disappears and rarely allows you to select it. Secondly, when I am able to select the “edit”, it won’t display the previous data. It only loads a blank screen. Any thoughts on what I should do?
I’m having the same problem, will let you know if I can fix it… I even tried to find the shipping rates in the mysql database, but gave up! Let us know if you work it out! Thanks…
How can I add multiple items to the shopping cart?
What about the “Support for canonical URLs though All in one SEO plugin”???
how can i integrate the seo options of all in one seo plugin with my ecomerce plugin? i cant finde the way to!
uups… it was so simple! i am sorry i have make it good right now!
Just a little question..
I have products divided into a sort of Groups (called “Marcas”… “brands” in english)… how can i edit the all in one seo plugin so when i am on a product page.. in the title (seo tag) of it i can see…
“Product Name | Group Name | Blog Name”? its possible?
Hey, great plug-in…I would so pay for this, it is a beauty… Having similar issues with shipping, I can’t get the edit button to behave, & after performing mouse calisthenics, I get the option to edit, but it doesn’t seem to work when i check out, it has a greyed out option for shipping (via weight)… Has anyone fixed this bug?
Hi.
I deleted a product group and after that the site never listed any group at all.
The groups are available in the admin section, but on the site there are not shown.
What can be done? I upgraded Wordpress and WP-ecommerce to the latest version with no use.
Thanks.
Hej,
I’ve searched in the forum and on this site, but haven’t found any helping answers. I don’t know if this is a 3.7 bug or just my fault. But my products are not shown at the admin page. I’ve added 3 products and they appear on the frontend but when I want to change or delete them they’re not there. Tested in different browser but still “wp-admin/admin.php?page=wpsc-edit-products” shows no products. Can anyone help me?
Thanks and take care,
Alex
