The WP e-Commerce 3.7 Beta 4 release is the same as Beta 3 but with a number of bug fixes and enhancements that will improve your WordPress e-Commerce experiance.
New Template Engine
Our most frequent request. We did what we were told, we closed the curtains, locked the doors, copied the WordPress template engine and made our own. Now you can control and customize any part of your e-Commerce site. Based off the WordPress templating and Query system WP e-Commerce now has the best template system in town. Web designers can now go crazy!!
Our friend Wes Davis from Net Prophets has stated the the new Template Engine cuts his development time down by half. We’re totally chuffed and glad to be of service.
Intense Debate Integration
Instinct worked with the guys at Crowd Favorite to release an e-Commerce specific version of Intense Debate that lets people add Product Comments and reviews to their products. We felt it was better to do this then come up with our own commenting solution.
A faster Javascript experience with jQuery
WP e-Commerce has swapped out 90% of their custom made Javascripts with ultra fast jQuery. Essentially meaning a much faster e-Commerce experience for your customers.
Some people wonder why we didn’t do this in the first place, its because WP e-Commerce was around before jQuery and this has meant that unfortunately we’ve had to retro fit all our code. Its very close now though – our testers have been very happy with the results.
Video Tutorials!!
Our friend Adam Purcel at Hungry Dog media has launched a number of free WP e-Commerce video tutorials. If you want proof that the WP e-Commerce Plugin works then play the video – if your install does not go this smooth we’re pretty certain you’re doing something wrong or you have a crazy custom built server made by an old school Linux beard ;)

Goodbye Plugin Conflicts
We’ve been using wp enqueue for a while now, wp enqueue is meant to stop Plugins conflicting with other Plugins. This time round we’ve been a little more and have support for wp enqueue script and wp enqueue style.
Thumbnail Crop
Its hard to make that perfect thumbnail image – we’re Mac fiends here at Instinct and we appreciate the joys of Photoshop so we’re the first to admit that writing code to create the perfect thumbnail image to suit everybody’s needs was always going to be a difficult task.
So rather then try to come up with the perfect image cropping algorithm we’ve made a cropping tool that will allow you to make the pixel perfect thumbnail images.
Settings > Shipping
Shipping management has always bothered me a little so we’ve begun a user interface overhaul. Internal and External shipping calculators have been split up and we’ve moved the edit button to a more logical place.
Checkout Page Thumbnails
Now we have a great new Template engine it was easy for us to add Thumbnail images to our checkout page. If you want to remove them it easy.
A treat for members only / subscription sites
We’ve made a few improvements here. First of all we’ve added the ability to sign up, login and purchase all on the same screen. This greatly improves the user experience for your customers.
Settings > Payment Gateways
You can now change the Display Text for each Payment Gateway in the admin section.
For instance (and using the above image as an example) you can now change the word “PayPal Standard” to read differently in the admin section of your site. It could read something like “Pay by Credit Card” instead.
USA Tax Law
In regards to the USA tax we’ve modified a couple of things to ensure we follow USA Tax law. We have had many a USA customers comment on the way Tax works with regards to our Plugin, so we got a friend in the States to find out the Tax Laws and give us some scenarios so we could make it work just the way it should! To clear the air and make sure we are on the same page, the scenarios we have implemented are as follows:
Scenario 1
My shop is in Alabama. A customer from Texas buys a product and ships it to Alabama (He gets charged tax)
Scenario 2
My shop is in Alabama. A customer from Alabama buys a product and ships it to Texas (He gets charged tax)
Scenario 3
My shop is in Alabama. A customer from Alabama buys a product and ships it to Alabama (He gets charged tax)
Scenario 4
My shop is in Alabama. A customer in Texas buys a product and ships it to Texas (He doesn’t get charged tax)
These scenarios work by checking the shipping country select box and billing country select box on the checkout page.
We understand that sometimes these scenarios don’t suit your needs, for example if you customized your checkout page so a customer does not have to enter shipping details, we have added a new option in the checkout settings page called Lock tax to Billing Country. If you have this turned on the shipping country and billing country will be locked to each other, so if you change one the other will automatically change. This changes the above scenarios to:
Scenario 1

Crafty Cart 2
We use Crafty Cart for our development site and we can’t seem to contact Bill the original developer so we’re going to release a new version of Crafty Cart unless Bill comes back to us with more information – if you know how to contact Bill please do.
We have also designed a Crafty Cart version of Drop Shop but its not yet released.
A few misc things
- Chronopay probably won’t work until 3.7 Release Candidate 1 or full launch.
- Gold files have moved. The new folder should be automatically created when the e-commerce plugin is activated, but if it is not, you will have to create it yourself. The details are in the readme download file.
- iShop and MarketPlace themes will be updated soon
- As always when upgrading make sure you backup first.

I was really hoping that this was going to be the one, but sadly I didn’t even make it past adding a product before realizing nothing has changed. I would love for one of your crew to add multiple images to any product on your Products Page, and not your thumbnail gallery page. The files are there for the multiple image loader to work, but something is not calling right even after activation. Seems like a simple fix, and I know I am not the only one wanting to see this fixed from looking at the other forums.
I shall keep testing, but would rather see this a contest than building your simplecart shoestore.

@Bryan; I think what you meant to say was that ‘nothing visible from my point of view’ has changed in this release.
From an aesthetic point of view you might be right but a whole week of full time programming has gone into this Beta release and its more stable.
That said I want to add that image feature too. I’ll get it actioned this week for the full release. Its a good idea.
Also leave the theme competition out of this. There are other people out there who are competing and having fun and regardless of what you think it serves a purpose (and it didnt take up any more of my time to write up that post then it did to reply to you).

I am still having problems with entering donation amounts and having the amount transferred to the checkout page. No matter what it returns an amount of $0.00 on checkout. Also, when using PayPal Standard as a payment option I get sent to a page the displays this message, “Unable to process payment. Please contact the merchant as the shipping address provided by the merchant is invalid, and the merchant has requested that your order must be shipped to that address.” And I have shipping turned off. I am using WP 2.8.1-beta1. Thoughts?

Very cool and very clever this beta 4.
It fixed a LOT o problems regarding widgets and other options.
Unfortunately, I still have problems on certain issues. Maybe it is something wrong with our host provider. But we just don’t know.
Everything runs smoothly, adding products, images, etc.
When proceeding to checkout it shows me this:
“WordPress database error Table ‘laika3.wp_purchase_logs’ doesn’t exist for query SET NAMES ‘utf8′ made by require, require_once, require_once, require_once, do_action, call_user_func_array, wpsc_submit_checkout, gateway_pagseguro
WordPress database error Table ‘laika3.wp_cart_contents’ doesn’t exist for query SET NAMES ‘utf8′ made by require, require_once, require_once, require_once, do_action, call_user_func_array, wpsc_submit_checkout, gateway_pagseguro”
When trying to add a TAG to any product it gives me this:
“WordPress database error Duplicate entry ‘product’ for key ’slug’ for query SET NAMES ‘utf8′ made by do_action, call_user_func_array, wpsc_admin_submit_product, wpsc_insert_product, wpsc_update_product_tags, wp_set_object_terms, wp_insert_term
”
Can someone helps me with this errors, since this is a INCREDIBLE tool but this error is now allowing we to run the business.

I believe this could be a bug with the merchant gateway you are using. Please email dev@instinct.co.nz with a link to your site, wp-admin and ftp access details and we’ll try have get it fixed asap,

I went to install Beta 4 on a clients website, but the file structure is completely different from the existing…Is this correct? If so, why was the file structure changed? How will this effect the overall performance of an existing eCommerce site using this plug-in?

Hummmm Big Apple, 3 A.M. Don’t Know What’s Happening with Beta 4, but Gold Module is not working, i can change options, but nothing happens, i can’t look for search, grid view, list view.
You will need the newest gold cart files, you can download them using the link you would have received in your email.

Thank you for this really good product. My I have a question? I am from czech republic and I would like to force e-commerce to use Czech language without problems. Thats really nice that you have made support for Czech but when I switch on this language, the letters with diacritic are missing. There are queries. How could I manually tell to e-commerce use charset like UTF – 8 for example? Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have a SLIGHT problem!
It seems that the variations are still pretty buggy for me. I don’t know if it has to do with my having a large variation set (that is, two variation sets with 7 items each…top and bottom colours in other words) or what…but it’s not good!
Anyways, the problem i’m seeing is that once a variation set is initialized, it’s stuck.. That is, I can’t get rid of the variations for that product. Worse, if it’s initialized with a value of 0.0 then that product is stuck with that price (as all the variation values are filled in as 0.0 in the database) I ended up fixing it with a sql command (luckily all my prices are the same) but this is really a killer for me! I need to be able to edit those variations!
I really need to get this thing working and out the door so any advice would be much appreciated!
…good grief I sound a bit hysterical there with all those exclamation marks, but this problem is driving me a bit bonkers.

Hello Stephen, I have been testing the variations functionality and noticed that if I had two variations on a product and deleted one set of variations off a product the product shows 0.00 in the front end. However if I go back and edit the product and just click update product the remaining variation prices take effect again,,, is this what you are reporting?
I dont see any reason you should have to do a sql query at all.. if this does not answer your problem please send us a link to your site with the issue and step by step details in replicating your problem.

Firstly, great plugin! There are just a couple of issues when using DPS Payment Express and Gold Cart that should be addressed in the next release. They occur in v3.6.12 with Wordpress 2.7, and with the new beta 3 release with WP2.8.
When payment is accepted, the following transaction results page is blank.
The purchaser then doesn’t receive an email containing the download link. In the sales section, the payment shows as accepted but the email isn’t sent until I click through: order received, accepted payment, job dispatched, closed order.
Everything else is working perfectly, but having to do this manually is causing a few headaches.
Was wondering if this should be triggered with the cron file or is buggy and we need to tweek the php?
Any feedback greatly appreciated!

Nice to see the update. Unfortunately, I was hoping a few things were recoded that weren’t including a semi-possible way of customizing the urls as you see fit with minimal coding instead its still multiple functions that make it nearly impossible.
Any help on that would be greatly appreciated. I think, it should be reasonably possible to remove the products-page on products and the sub categories without complexity.

My wordpress install is NOT in the root directory. The first breadcrumb link links back to the /wp/ directory rather than to the /store/ or homepage.
e.g. Click the breadcrumb “The Indie Travel Podcast” link here:

Can you please check the WordPress address URL in your General settings page?
The breadcrumbs use that as the URL for the first item.
New beta is looking great, I just installed it on IIS 8 hosted on a Windows 2008 Server with no issues – i did have manually delete beta 3 though.
I have a question, i bought the gold cart for the last release how can I get the beta or whatever version is out for beta 4? I need to get this site I got up ASAP. Thanks – you dudes rock.
One question… I dont really like the “product” page itself. I am actually going to use a post for each item. If there could be a way to just redirect a product to a “post” instead of its product page that would be cool. Is there a way to do that now?
Yes but you still have to add your products through the add / edit products.
Simply make a new post and add the shortcode for that particular product to that post and it will work.
We will make a button to do this at some point (hmm if we havent already)…
Could you give the example of one of product shortcode please?
A shortcode should look like this:
[wpsc_products product_id='4']
You can find them by pressing the “i” image next to the product name.

I have a problem with donations.
If i select a product a a donation, the product don’t go in the basket.
Another question, what is P&P that is displaied in a product?
I have not observed the donations issue, mind sending me a link?
Also, P&P is the same as Shipping and Handling, stands for Postage and Packaging.
Hey Dan, I emailed you sometime over the last week about the Gold Cart email link… I’m still not able to choose which Gold Cart version to download – it starts the download right away. Do you expect to resolve this issue or can you resend the updated Gold Cart files?
