threadless + thematic (weekend) challenge

Our last weekend theme challenge was a total blast. This weekend I’m increasing the odds – one lucky person who submits a Thematic Child theme that looks like the threadless.com website and functions in a comparable way will win $450 USD (plus contributions for other people) and will gets profiled on our website.

The main goal here is to make more e-Commerce friendly themes available for WordPress e-Commerce Plugin users and to help profile you and or your business.

Because the copyright of the Threadless design belongs to Threadless you must focus on making a theme that shares the same aesthetic layout and style. The winning submission will handle images and product layout in the same way, your shopping cart (top right) will need to look the same and you must make sure that the checkout page also shares the same aesthetic layout.

The Rules:

• Must use Thematic
• Must use WP e-Commerce 3.7 RC1 or Higher
• Clever use of Widgets to achieve the best results
• Must utilize Grid View that comes with the WP e-Commerce Gold Cart
• The theme must include a stylized Checkout page that also mimics the threadless checkout page
• Must be emailed to dan@instinct.co.nz before the end of the weekend
• You must pay attention to the finer details including fonts used, font sizes, margins and padding

Developer Tips

Tip – Changing the Shopping Cart will require editing the checkout_widget.php file in your e-commerce themes directory.

Tip – Changing the checkout page will require editing the shopping_cart_page.php

Tip – On the threadless site at the top of the site the threadless, typetees, select and kids links would correspond to WP e-Commerce Plugin categories.

Tip – The threadless checkout process is split whereas the current checkout process on the WP e-Commerce Plugin is done in one page. Splitting the checkout would require you knowing more php but you would get bonus points for succeeding such a task.

Of course you’ll need to send us these files too with the rest of your submission.

Update:

There are a number of you still working on various new threadless themes for WP e-Commerce and because I’m presenting at the WordCamp UK convention on the 20th of July I have extended the deadline to Wednesday 15th July 10pm NZT.

I will announce the winner at WordCamp UK. Threadless have offered an additional $100 t-shirt voucher for the winner. So you’ll be getting some very good exposure too.
