WP e-Commerce Newsletter

Following is an email I sent out to our subscribers earlier today. One of our members suggested we post it here for transparencies sake.

Hi Team. Kia Ora!!

As you know I am gearing up for Sydney WordCamp. It has been a busy couple of weeks – to be honest I’m not the best presenter in the world but I love WordPress and all of our WordPress e-Commerce efforts go into helping make WordPress better for others so hopefully this passion comes across in my talk.

I just wanted to touch base once more before the next release candidate goes live:

1. Thanks for all the positive responses and offers regarding our call for contributors. Keep your eyes posted for my next significant announcement this coming Saturday.

2. Either tonight or Wednesday morning we plan to upload RC2 and it kicks some serious butt. Then early next week we will replace our current development version with a new version that includes our new Template engine based on the WordPress query.php file and Template Tags. We are choosing not to include this with the next Release Candidate because it is quite a significant change and we don’t want to go breaking your sites unnecessarily.

3. Recently some people have posted some quite negative posts about our beloved WP e-Commerce plugin. This is very frustrating and not based on any fact – not a day goes by where we are not programming and working hard ensuring the future of WP e-Commerce. So if you’ve got something to say make it positive… remember even critism can be positive if communicated in a mature and friendly fashion.

Some easy ways to help the WP e-Commerce project include helping people in our forums, linking to us, contributing code and helping with documentation. Of course you could throw copious amounts of money at us but it would only get spent on one of the above items so lets just get trucking!

Positive Actions

If you are going to post something in the fourms please search to see if there is already an answer – if there is then that is better then duplicating content. Alo if you have posted something that has been answered then please mark it as resolved – it saves us from having to do it. We would much rather be fixing real bugs then spending time emailing people and tweaking our forums ;)

If you have a shop powered by WP e-Commerce then please post about it in these places, you are guarnteed to get some good traffic:

When you tag your post ensure that you use the tag “wp-e-commerce” in conjunction with any other tag that you use. This will ensure the world knows that your site is a WordPress e-Commerce powered site!!!

4.
GetShopped.Com is our very own WordPress powered E-Commerce site builder. If you don’t have a getshopped site setup please set on up now (just for fun) and let us know what you think. If you like it then please vote for GetShopped over at the 2008 WPMU Awards Nominations.

GetShopped might be perfect for your next project… big or small. You can setup shop, setup your own domain name, select a lovely design and start selling in no time.

5. Calling all Ausies. See you at the Sydney WordCamp!!! Now is your chance to have your say and give it to me straight mate.

Take care everybody!!!

Ciao,

Dan

Thanks for the update, guys! And don’t let the idiots get you down, WP e-Commerce is an excellent package and it will only get better. Also, it’s FREE, what do they want? There are plenty of paid e-Commerce solutions out there, which won’t have the out-of-the-box SEO power that only a WordPress powered platform can have. I’m happy with the plugin despite having to work out a few bugs, but that was half the fun.

    Keep up the good work.
