WP e-Commerce Affiliates Beta

Behind the scenes we have been working on an affiliates module for the WP e-Commerce Plugin. This has been developed because of populor demand – it has been sitting on my desktop for about a month and only a few special people have had the chance to test it. Unfortunatly we have not received much feedback so I have decided to make it available for free download on the basis that people will use it and post their feedback here.

Once we have finished beta testing we may or may not decide to sell it on our premium modules website – that too will depend on your feedback. If you do decide to test it and you submit useful feedback then we will provide you with free access to any Affiliate file updates for a year from launch date (ground zero).

To install the module simply put the files in the /gold_cart_files/ folder like you would any other additional gold module.

Is this only for people with the gold cart?

I have downloaded and attempted to install but as I’ve only recently installed the original plug in perhaps I can’t try it out?

    Please let me know thanks

Don’t know if I did this right but I installed the affiliate program. I don’t see any indication in the admin area for this module. What should I see?

    same here,
did not find any link to the affiliate page.
where should we look for the affiliate page?

Well, I’ve downloaded it too. I put in the plugin file with the wp-shopping-cart files and it show in my adim area as Gold Options, but when I click on the link it says:
    {Not Found
The requested URL /wordpress/wp-admin/wp-shopping-cart/gold_cart_files/gold_options.php was not found on this server.

    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.}

So my question is what folder should it actually be in?

  10. Posted November 9, 2008 at 10:11 am | Permalink

    I copied all files to

    /wp-shopping-cart/gold_cart_files

    no changes in admin panel…

    did I do something wrong?

  11. Posted November 11, 2008 at 9:28 am | Permalink

Ditto as most commenter here… I see no changes. How / where etc. do we install the plugin and find the affliate controls, Dan?

Same here, downloaded and cannot find any link in admin area. Does this only work for Gold Cart users or the free cart?

We’ll take a look at this… Allen will have a play and then post some more instructions here. So keep watching this space :)

I really hope to get the affiliates addon released, b’coz I don’t want to use 3rd party affiliate program for my shop.

  15. Posted November 17, 2008 at 10:30 am | Permalink

We have uploaded a new version.

The new set of instructions are as follows:
    1/ download the affiliates module
2/ download latest gold cart files
3/ copy the affiliates.php file in the gold_cart_files folder

Your setup should look like this:
    wp-content/wp-shopping-cart/gold_cart_files/affiliates.php

I uploaded the latest affliliate version and used with latest cart version to two sites – one WP 2.7 and one WP 2.63 – and still get nothing about affiliates. Is it supposed to be located in the “Gold Options” ?

Above, and in the affiliate plugin readme file, it says
“Your setup should look like this:
    wp-content/wp-shopping-cart/gold_cart_files/affiliates.php”

However, the path is actually supposed to be this, correct? – Inside the plugins folder?
    /domain.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-shopping-cart/gold_cart_files

Has anyone got this working successfully?

Hey Dan, I’d love to buy the affiliate module when it’s working. I’m sure you guys could make a bunch of money with this module and it seems like people are interested enough to write about it… Any update on when it might be revamped and get another beta version out here to play w/…? Thanks! :)

When I put the affiliate.php file in the gold-cart files folder, I see an “affiliation” link in my e-commerce menu, when I click on it I get this error
    “Commission Details

I hope you have not given up on creating the affiliate plugin. It is fundamental to a competitive e-commerce solution and I would like to help beta test it to see it through to completion, but from the age of the comments and the problems described it appears to be an the scrap heap… Don’t give up!

  24. Posted February 5, 2009 at 8:41 am | Permalink

I’m getting the same error as KaitlynMarie. Any info regarding a fix would be much appreciated.

Definitely still the wpsc_affiliate_now function, but is this function added to the latest Gold Cart files? I did try a fresh gold cart download, but that function isn’t in any of the files.

The call is to echo it, but what should the function contain? If the echo is commented out, the rest of the page loads for affiliate and settings. But other than setting the commission %, there doesn’t seem to be a way to set up the affiliates.

You guys haven’t abandoned this project, have you? There are no answers at all from 2009 here, and I’m wondering if we need to look elsewhere for our affiliate solution with this cart?

    Posted February 22, 2009 at 4:51 am | Permalink

In a nutshell – your code is calling for another chunk of code when you load the Affiliate page, but that chunk is missing. Updating the Gold files might fix this?

The way you guys wrote this up (link above) it was working – so I would guess that someone just forgot to zip a file or include file somewhere?

  28. Posted March 13, 2009 at 7:03 am | Permalink

This would definitely be a bonus if they can get it working. I would like to see a flat fee and percentage based commission and even better would be to have it be able to be set per product. (then I could get rid of my other shopping cart and be fully on wp-ecommerce. I hope they finish it up.

Heather (my primary / frequent programmer) thinks she’s isolated the problem (above) and I’m really puzzled by the complete lack of response here from Instinct.

I understand if there are other priorities, but why not answer? At this point, should we just give up and find another solution?

    Hi Scott,

Would you be kind enough to share the results from your programmer?
Just taking out the evil line 34 doesn’t work and I don’t have any more leads on the subject.

Let me know well let US know :)

LOL, that last comment was hilarious…in all it’s FOBiness…

Um, is this an affiliate program for INSTINCT or for the e-comm site that it’s on? I assume it’s the latter, but comments here seem to think it’s the former.

I’ll take a look at the code as well…

This would be awesome…love Instinct stuff so far…

I have installed the latest wordpress blog 2.8.6 and 3.7.5 plugin with Gold Cart.

I follow the instruction to upload the “gold_cart_files” folder into /wp-content/uploads/wpsc/upgrades/

and also uploaded the “affiliates.php” file into /wp-content/uploads/wpsc/upgrades/gold_cart_files/

I tried to deactivated the plugin and reactivated again but still cannot find the ‘affiliate’ tab or link in the admin panel.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

Is support here dead? Just asking before I spend much more time investigating a cart which looks great on the drawing board, but doesn’t even install correctly with the latest version of WP and latest version of this cart.

Fellow WP e-Commerce-rs. I remember checking this post a few months ago — but it looks like doesn’t quite work (at the moment), and I bet the WP e-Commerce team has far more pressing issues to worry about.

Just found this — “WP Affiliate Software Integration with the Instinct’s WP-eCommerce Plugin”: http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-affiliate/wp-affiliate-software-integration-with-the-instincts-wp-ecommerce-plugin-70

Looks very promising, flexible, and relatively easy to implement, so I will be trying it out. Hopefully it works, and in turn helps out the WP e-Commerce team so they can focus on their plans & helps users, so we finally have affiliate functionality. Take care.

By the way, the WP Affiliate Platform I mention above the intergrates with WP e-Commerce currently costs $35, which is fantastic. There’s alot of good information on the site, so I dug around to find the initial actual purchase page.

(As I said previously, I will be trying it out soon for my products, so please do your due diligence before purchasing)
